Your DAORN board and committee chairs have already been hard at work to prepare for an exciting 2013-2014 season (sort of like the Rockies, but with much better pitching). The combined board meeting was hosted by CCI June 24th. There are some great changes in store for members, but you’ll have to come to the Sept. meeting at AORN headquarters to find out what they are, and how you can contribute.
The new board members would like to take this opportunity to begin introducing themselves to you. Highlighted this week is one of our board members, Kathy Doughty, and our new treasurer, Tammy Woolley. Even if you know these folks already, I’ll bet you learn something new about them after reading their bios slides (attached). Other board members will be highlighted in future e-mailings.
The Fall workshop committee met at Peggy Camp’s house last night. This workshop looks to be one of our best ever with an exciting slate of nationally recognized speakers and timely topics to enhance our perioperative practice. Stay tuned for more information, which will be posted on both DAORN.org and ORNurselinks.
The other HUGELY exciting news is that a periop class will be offered this fall in collaboration with AORN and Metropolitan State University. The flyer is attached. A lot of people have worked very hard to make this course a reality; the least the perioperative community can do is offer clinical sites for these students so that they can get the best possible introduction to perioperative nursing. If you would like more information, or are interested in placing a student at your facility, please contact Peggy Camp at her office at 720-279-3653.
A couple of old business items:
We are still looking for a host site for the March meeting. Please contact Julie Mower at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or to volunteer your facility.
The following committees would benefit from a few more enthusiastic volunteers to round out their membership:
Membership (Chair: Karin Underberg)
Awards (Chair: Jim Stobinski)
Bylaws (Acting chair: Amanda Brown)
Hospital captains (Chair: Cathy Andrews)
Informatics (Acting chair: Daisie Snyder)
Legislative (Chair: Mickie Parsons)
Scholarships/grants (Chair: Tammy Woolley)If you are interested in signing up for any of these committees, please contact Julie Mower and she will pass your information along to the respective chair.
I hope everyone has a very safe and relaxing holiday weekend. For those of you working, thank you so much for providing expert assistance to those folks who need your skills and compassion the most.
Julie Mower, DAORN President
