The DAORN season kicked off with an action-packed meeting Oct. 10th. I’d like to thank Exempla St. Joseph’s Hospital, with a special shout-out to Kim Caesar and Mary Shepler, for serving as gracious hosts, and for Drs. Mark Ammons and Will Anderson for their very informative and entertaining presentation on Transfemoral Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR). Meeting minutes are on our website at daorn.wpmudev.host
I certainly hope you will be able to join us for our next DAORN meeting on Nov. 14 at Denver Health, Pavilion C, Sabin classroom. Please bring $2.00 if you are planning on parking in the garage. Dinner is served at 1730 and is being provided courtesy of CCI. Our guest speaker, Dr. Charles Fox, will discuss the development of a new endovascular program at DH. This activity has been submitted to the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses, Inc. for approval to award 1 contact hour.
If you are interested in serving as a delegate to Expo in Chicago March 29-April 2, 2014, time is running out to submit your nomination. Tally point sheets and bio forms must be submitted by 1800 on Nov. 14. Nominations will close at the end of the business meeting. Use activities and meeting attendance between Sept. 2012 and Sept. 2013 to calculate your points; 12 are required. You may e-mail forms (found on our website) to Jane Junge at email@example.com, or bring them with you to the meeting. If you have any questions about delegate duties, please contact the Delegate Chair, Sharon Luhrs, at firstname.lastname@example.org
Get ready for a spectacular Fall Workshop, being held at Presbyterian/ St. Luke’s on Nov. 22. If you haven’t registered yet (see flyer on our website) there’s still time, but space is limited. Want to do more than show up? There are several fabulous opportunities for behind-the-scenes volunteers. Contact Julie Martin at email@example.com for details.
The Denver Museum of Nature and Science just can’t get enough of perioperative nursing and has asked DAORN to increase the number of days of community outreach. Sharon Luhrs, Chair, and several dedicated committee members stepped up to the task on Oct. 20th and as a result, the number of clean hands in the 6 and under age group increased exponentially. Contact Sharon for future volunteer opportunities, or (better yet!) come to the meeting and look for the sign-up clipboard.
Jim Stobinski is finalizing the national chapter awards application, due this Friday (yes, that’s right: Nov. 1). If you have ANYTHING (pictures, press releases, newsletters, etc.) related to a DAORN event held between June 1, 2012, and May 31, 2013, please send to Jim at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com All materials must be received by Wednesday, Oct. 30th.
In keeping with the spirit of the season, bring a canned food item to our Nov. meeting. Collections will be donated to an area food bank.
I’m looking forward to seeing each of you on Nov. 14th. Have a safe trick or treating experience.
