A “heart”felt thank-you to Children’s Hospital and Tammy Woolley for hosting our February meeting. Our speaker, Dr. Brent O’Neill, provided a fascinating discussion on stereotactic surgery for epilepsy.
Speaking of education-get ready to add another conference to your calendar for next year. Sharon Luhrs and Peggy Camp represented DAORN in launching the first-ever multidisciplinary workshop, which included 6 area specialty nursing organizations. The speakers were outstanding, and several other nursing organizations have expressed a desire to be included in next year’s venue.
A huge thank you for all who brought school supplies for Mt. St. Vincent’s Children’s Home. Donations will again be collected at the March meeting.
Our own Peggy Camp has been awarded the AORN Outstanding Educator of the Year. If you are attending the Surgical Conference/Expo, please try and attend the awards ceremony-I know she would like to see some familiar smiling faces in the audience. Peggy would not have received this well-deserved award without the behind-the-scenes work of the Awards Committee, so kudos to them as well.
Our next DAORN meeting will be March 13th at Project Cure. The warehouse may be chilly, so dress accordingly. If your schedule allows, plan on arriving at 1600 for an hour and a half of volunteer service. Be prepared to enjoy a presentation by Faith Beazer as she takes us on a tour of one of her mission trips. I’m fairly certain she will be taking us someplace warm!
One of our last major tasks as a chapter this year is to choose our leaders for 2014-2015. I would love to see the ballot chock-full of names. The available positions are listed below; I’ve included the “job descriptions” as attachments. There are varying levels of time commitments and eligibility requirements, but I’m confident there’s a spot for anyone who is looking for an opportunity to hone those leadership skills. If you are interested in running for office, please contact April Erbland, Nominating Committee chair, at email@example.com for more information. You will need to submit a willingness to serve form and a biographical sheet (available on our website at daorn.org).There are also plenty of committee spots available for next year as well; look for those sign-up sheets during the April meeting.
Open positions for DAORN chapter, 2014-2015:
President-Elect (serves as president 2015-2016)
Vice President (two year term; 2014-2016)
Secretary (two year term; 2014-2016)
Board of directors: need two people to serve, 2014-2016
Nominating committee: need three people to serve, 2014-2016. Also need a current member to serve as chair for next year.
I’m looking forward to seeing all of you at the March meeting. Stay warm until then! Julie Mower, DAORN President
