Fall 2015-2016 President’s Message

President’s Message

I am proud to serve as your DAORN President for the 2015- 2016. As we start this year, I find myself reflecting on why I became and continue to be a perioperative nurse and member of DAORN, and I hope you do as well. As a chapter, we look forward to continuing to advocate for local perioperative nurses and the safety of patients that we care for.
In order to better fit the needs of Chapter Members, we will begin offering a couple of Saturday morning meetings, instead of the traditional Thursday meeting. Hopefully this will allow members who work late during the week to attend. We also recognize that the educational speakers have taken time out of their day to join us, so this year we will have the education session before the business meeting on the Thursday evening meetings.  Additionally, as members your time is valuable so we will strive to keep the business meeting meaningful and on time.

As a DAORN member the best way you can help improve the chapter is by getting involved. There are several committees and events to choose from, so be sure to sign up at the September meeting if you have not already.  The DAORN chapter is like all things in life- the more you give of yourself, the more you receive from the experiences.

Each year the Fall Workshop and DAORN/Bill Lord golf tournament rely on volunteers to ensure their continued success. The money raised by these events supports the continued education of members, sending chapter delegates to Expo and nursing scholarships for students.  None of this is possible without your continued support.  If you have volunteered in the past you understand how much is involved and we thank you for your help.  If you have not volunteered, we would love to have you join us in such events!

Save the date for the DAORN annual Fall Workshop on October 30th at the Lowry Event Center. The workshop promises to be an exciting day spent with nationally recognized speakers.  Attending the workshop is a great educational opportunity to renew your spirit as a perioperative nurse.  Look for the brochure on the DAORN website in September.

The DAORN/Bill Lord Memorial Golf tournament held in June 2016. Please let Ellen Lord know if you are interested in volunteering.  Check the DAORN website for updated information.
